The film opened at #2 behind "Paranormal Activity 3" earning just over $30 million behind the first week's gross of "Sansar" which earned $43 million. The film grossed approximately $28,911,713 in North America and $107,102,000 overseas for a worldwide total of about $139,070,000. In January 2013 Deadline reported that Summit Entertainment had purchased screen rights to make a sequel with Dwayne Johnson as possible director. On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 25%, based on reviews from 38 critics, with an average rating of 4.3/10. The website's critical consensus reads, ""Journey 2: The Mysterious Island"s bland approach to its twisty premise and pure CGI disappointment stalls what might have been a promising adventure". On Metacritic, the film has a score of 39 out of 100, based on reviews from 20 critics, indicating "generally unfavorable reviews". Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is available in India on Blu-ray Disc format in all regions except for North America. On January 17, 2013 an officially licensed Hindi dub version was released in India by PVR Pictures and was released on DVD. The film is titled "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" and has been dubbed in Hindi language with English subtitles. The film was completed long before the release of its Indian dubbed version which had to be stalled due to an unofficial unlicensed version which actually featured a completely different film because all the scenes were dubbed over from another Hindi Indian movie called Gang War: Kurukshetra. The movie was later pulled down and taken off streaming because of copyright issues over the copied scenes. The Hindi dubbed version came with two extra scenes; an additional scene with the characters' ages revealed after the death of their mother and an additional scene where they discover their father's diary.On December 6, 2013 it was announced that Indiaglitz.com would be posting Hindi Dubbed Bluray/DVDs (English-Subtitled-Hindi) of all upcoming Universal's upcoming films in India on release day of each film.
